Inday: (Eyes rolling before speaking) Madame, your hypothesis is sorely unscientific and medieval. Off the bat, my wild guess and assumption is burping, also known as belching, ructus, or eructation involves the release of gas from the digestive tract through the mouth and is caused by eating or drinking too fast, and thereby swallowing and subsequently expelling air, in which the expelled gas is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen.

Inday: It can also be caused by imbibing carbonated drinks such as beer, soft drinks, or champagne, in which case the expelled gas is carbon dioxide from the drink itself. Kindly verify my animated imagination with more credible sources lest you end up second-guessing.
